Beginner/Foundation Classes

How are the classes structured?

The classes have been structured and categorised so as to allow a beginner to progress surely and safely from basic postures to more advanced poses as you gain flexibility, strength and sensitivity.

Each beginner/foundation class will have a different focus which will provide participants with an understanding of why competence in certain poses creates a pathway to a more advanced practice. 

Who is instructing the classes?

Claire has been training in Iyengar Yoga for 6 years but has been a student herself for nearly 11. She holds a degree in Nutrition, a degree in Physiotherapy and completed her Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in conjunction with beginning her Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training in 2005.  Claire has chosen the Iyengar style of Yoga not only for the physical benefits of strength, alignment and balance but also for the amazing integration of body, mind and spirit. The health benefits are endless as you will learn about during the classes.

Will there be casual classes I can attend after the beginner/foundation classes?

Absolutely. Check our timetable (always being updated).

What do I need to bring and what do I wear?

All props will be available for use in the class, however, if you have a favourite yoga mat, please feel free to bring it along. It is best to wear clothing that allows freedom of movement for yoga classes. Fitted clothing is best, however this is not compulsory. Please be reminded that as we move into the winter months, it is advisable to wear layers that can be peeled off as the body warms up and placed back on for meditation and breathing when the body will be cooling down at the end of each class.

Do I have to have any yoga experience?

Absolutely not! The classes are designed for those new to yoga and are structured to assist you to move through the yoga class levels at your own pace. If you are a beginner, you can be sure that the class is specifically designed for beginners, however, if you do have some experience, Claire will certainly instruct and modify the poses to ensure you are getting the full benefit. We are reminded in Iyengar Yoga that even the most advanced Yogi will still need to revisit the basic poses to ensure consolidation both physically and mentally.

Is there anything else I need to know & what methods of payment are available?

Please give us some details by downloading the Verve Yoga Studio Registration Form or call 4954 4191 or email info@verveforlife.com.au and request a registration form. Simply bring the form in when you arrive for your class.
